The Clear Lake Fire Department usually interviews new recruits once or twice a year depending on the need for additional volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
o At least 18 years old
o Must live within City Limits or 2 Miles from Station
o Clean Criminal Background
o Good Physical Shape
o Attend Company Meetings/ Trainings
o Participate in Fundraising and community events
Application Process
o Talk with a current CLFD member and determine if the CLFD is right for you
o Complete Application Packet
o Interview with recruiting committee
o Complete background check
o Complete Physical Exam
o Gear Assignment/ FIT Test
o Attend 24 Hours of Rookie School (Infection Control, CPR, Basic First Aid, Firefighting Tactics)
Minimum Requirements for Active Members
- Attend 20% of emergency responses
- Attend 80% of business meetings
- Attend a minimum of 24 hours of training annually
Meetings and Events Outline
- Monthly Business Meeting 1st Thursday of each month 6:30PM usually lasts 2-3 hours
- Monthly Training Drill 3rd Thursday of each month 6:30PM usually lasts 2-3 hours
- Misc. training drills CPR, Ice Water Rescue, Live Burn training are sometimes held on Saturdays when more time is needed or as facilities or instructors are available.
- Family Picnic for both active and retired members
- Christmas Party for both active and retired members
- Special Event stand-by for example home football games, bicycle races, snowmobile races etc.
- 4th of July
- Museum Duty – each active member is required to work one weekend day a summer at the fire museum from 1pm – 4pm
- Annual Pancake breakfast fund raiser 1st Sunday in October
